Australian Animal Coasters
These are the 'fairdinkum thing'.  This set of 5 placemats was made over 20 years ago by a traditional Aboriginal person living in the outback.   The design is very full of meaning.  Enlarge & study the paintings carefully & you realise it tells a story with great spiritual significance to the artist.  The detail in the paintings is impressive.  Have a look at the 'x-ray fish' with the platypus - it is truly one of the best I have ever seen & for its size almost unbelievable!  Each painting infact contain several object.  Even more realistic is the material these are made with - slats of wood with a red felt backing.  Practical - but for the collector - a real sign of authenticity.  Outback Aborigines paint on what-ever is on hand (some of the most valuable Aboriginal art in existance is painted on bits of junk!)  These would have been totally handmade & the imagination of the artist is a good as his ability.  You are unlikely to ever find a set similar to these anywhere.  4 coaster are 23cm x 27cm & the centre one is 26cm x 27cm. $98.98

Painted Rock Art
One type of traditional Aboriginal Art often overlooked by collectors & the public alike rock art.  Our cave art of course is well known, but painting on stones has been something we have continued to do.  Depending on its shape, rock art can be displayed in a frame similar to a plate.
stone
This rock art is great to display on a stand.  The stone is quite flat & its approximate measurements are 19cm x 12cm.  It is done in traditional orche colours with a traditional scene.  The artist is from our great-grandmothers' traditional area,  just south of Taree on the mid-north coast of N.S.W.  It is nicely finished with foam on the underside & is signed by the artist.    Enlargen photo to see just how nice this painting is.  $89.98 (Australians can get a discount on this product, click Aussie Rock.)
Wooden, woven & (in some cases) pottery objects have always been traditionally painted.  Today they can be a great way to enjoy Aboriginal Art without hanging it on a wall.  Plates & bowls can be enjoyed by apartment dwellers with little space & are also great in an office.
